Since 1936, Fire Management Today has served as a clearinghouse for new techniques, technologies, and ideas in wildland fire management. Published by the Forest Service, the journal provides an open forum for the entire wildland fire community. This information exchange has helped build a common culture and history among professionals in wildland fire management.
Early issues of the journal trace the development of modern fire management, including interagency collaboration, helicopter use, incident management, and fire behavior research. Human safety in the wildland fire environment has been—and continues to be—a central theme throughout FMT’s publication history.
