Capitol Christmas Tree Header

The Payette National Forest has been selected to provide the 2016 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree. For more than 50 years a tree has graced the west lawn of the U.S Capitol; and since 1970, a national forest has been selected to provide the honored tree, a gift from the national forest and its home state.  Learn more about selection of the tree, ornaments, partnerships, sponsors, calendar of events, and volunteering by visiting the Capitol Christmas Tree web Page.

Greater Sage-Grouse

The landscape and culture of the Interior West are characterized by the iconic sagebrush steppe ecosystems that are valued and used by people with a long and deep connection to the land. A need and desire has been identified to create a new balance between the use and protection of this landscape to conserve its important attributes, including greater sage-grouse. A protocol for evaluating the status of summer bighorn sheep habitats and is assessed by evaluating where there is potential contact between bighorn sheep and domestic sheep.

The initiative allows fourth graders to obtain a pass for free entry for them and their families to more than 2,000 federally managed lands and waters for an entire year starting in September.
