Salt Lake City, Utah, July 22, 2011 – Road closures caused by mud and rock slides are in effect on the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.  The Farmington Canyon road (Forest Road #80007) will remain closed indefinitely, pending removal of debris and slope stabilization due to a large landslide and deemed safe for travel. The closure starts at the Forest boundary on the west side of Farmington Canyon and goes east to the intersection with Skyline Drive.

Forest Service crews have been clearing smaller slides and repairing minor road damage across the Forest, but roads with extensive damagemaybe closed through much of the summer.

The Ward Canyon road, (Forest Road #80177) and Skyline Drive road, (Forest Service Road #80008) located in Davis County east of Bountiful are now open to allow access into the Bountiful Peak recreation residence area and the Bountiful Peak campground and picnic area, (which will not open until July 29th.)   The Francis Peak road is accessible by the Farmington Flat road, but is not recommended for sedans.

The Sessions Mountain road will also remain closed for public safety while heavy equipment and construction is in progress along the right of way during the Kern River/Apex Pipeline Expansion.  Sessions Mountain road will remain closed through November 2011 or when construction of the pipeline has been completed.

Citations for illegal travel will be issued and can carry penalties from a $175 to $5000 fine and/or up to 6 months in jail.
