We are offering a new experience at Santiam Pass Recreation Area with designated travel routes, new facilities, and some special regulations.

The area is open to both motorized (all vehicle classes) and non-motorized users (hiking, stock, mountain bikes). Motorized cross country travel is no longer allowed. Please review the Santiam Pass Area OHV Map (pdf - 1.2 mb) carefully, and carry it with you; some routes are restricted to certain vehicle classes.

Some routes may be closed during extreme fire danger periods in August and September. Please check our Fire Section for current conditions.

At a Glance

Permit Info: State of Oregon OHV permits required
Best Season: When the area is free of snow, usually the mid-June until mid-November.
Restrictions:
  • No motorized cross country travel.
  • Historic Santiam Wagon Road has special regulations to protect its unique historic character.
    • Santiam Wagon Road is closed to OHV traffic west of the junction with Road 860.
    • Speed limit for all vehicles is 15 m.p.h.
    • Camping is allowed in designated sites only.
  • All vehicles must have a valid Oregon ATV permit and obey all State of Oregon riding rules
  • Some routes may be closed during extreme fire danger periods.
