The Red River Ranger District is proposing: to decommission 85 miles and improve 84 miles of Forest Service Road; install one full size vehicle bridge over West Fork Newsome Creek on Road 1834, and install one ATV/motorcycle trail bridge over Newsome Creek on Trail 824 (Easter Mine).
The project area is located within the Newsome Creek watershed, a tributary of the South Fork Clearwater River, between Grangeville and Elk City, ID.
Newsome - Draft Decision Notice/FONSI - with Appendix A and B - March 2014 (PDF 955kb) The project will improve fish habitat by reducing sediment delivery to streams and improve hydrologic function within Newsome Creek and Leggett Creek watersheds. The decision would conduct decommissioning of 71 miles of road including abandonment (3 miles), and 95 miles of road improvement. This project would also install one full- size vehicle bridge across the West Fork Newsome Creek on Road 1834 and one trail vehicle bridge across Newsome Creek on Easter Mine Trail 834.
