General Updates and Conditions

For current fire conditions:
On July 18, the second annual "Tour of the Aufderhiede" bicycle race will begin at 8 a.m. on Forest Road 19 (Aufderhiede Drive) in Westfir. Watch for participants and congestion. Posted July 14,2014
A river hazard has been reported on the McKenzie River .25 miles below Paradise Boat Launch. Watch for logs piled up on an old bridge pylon in the middle of the river. High water hides the obstruction. The far left channel was open as of 5/19/2014 at 2:00 p.m. Posted July 14, 2014
The top pool at Terwilliger Hot Springs is under closure order for repair due to hazardous slumping. Posted July 14, 2014.

Forest Road 19 ( Aufderhiede Drive): Road 19 is completely passable to Westfir. Watch for limbs and branches on the road, rocks and debris. Posted July 14, 2014

Campgrounds & Day Use Sites

Campgrounds are now open for the season, including those in higher elevations.
Reservations are being accepted for the 2014 camping at recreation.gov
Terwilliger Hot Springs: Fees at Terwilliger Hot Springs are $6 per person for a day pass (can pay onsite) and $60 for an annual pass. Fee area includes hot springs, trail, lagoon, and parking.

Trail conditions change more in spring and fall following changing snow levels.We clear the low elevation, popular trails first.
The Obsidian Trail is logged and snow free to the lava flow. Expect patchy snow drifts after the lava flow area. Snow level is approximately 5800 feet. Posted July 14, 2014

Obsidian Limited Entry Area Permits: Advance reservations are now available only through the National Recreation Reservation System (NRRS) at www.recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Visit our Obsidian Limited Entry Permit Page for more information.
In addition to Forest Service offices, the Northwest Forest Pass ( $5.00 daily and $30.00 annually) can be purchased at all area Bi-Mart Stores and REI Sporting Goods stores. The NW Forest Pass may also be purchased through local vendors: Mather's Market in Cedar Flat near Springfield; Leaburg Country Store; Meyer's General Store in Blue River and at Blue Sky Market ( formerly Harbick's Country Store) in Rainbow.
