This dataset is a compilation of the most up to date Roadless areas from the National Forests in Idaho and the management prescriptions layers for the current forest plans for each of those National Forests.
This data was developed to show the Idaho Roadless Rule Themes for roadless areas and how they correspond to the national forests management area prescriptions for each roadless area in the State of Idaho. The management prescription boundary lines are not present in this final product.

This data is a subset of the data set used to do the analysis for the Idaho Roadless Rule Draft Environmental Impact Statement. It is intended for public information only. Use of this data may not yield accurate results in making calculations of acres, etc. The Forest Service uses the most up to date data available at the time of publishing. Comparing this dataset to other boundaries may not yield the same results as those published in the DEIS. The Forest Service reserves the right to update this data without warning or notification.

Data was compiled from the 11 National Forests in Idaho: Boise, Caribou, Challis, Clearwater, Idaho Panhandle, Kootenai, Payette, Salmon, Sawtooth,Targhee. and Wallowa-Whitman
Roadless Areas boundaries were collected from all 11 National Forests for the state of Idaho. The National Forest Plan Management Prescription layer for each forest was then overlayed with the Roadless Area boundary. For some forests present Forest Plan management prescriptions were used for the Existing Forest Plan Theme assignment (generally 1987 vintage) and the Forest Plan Revision prescription layer was overlayed and used to assign the State Roadless Rule Theme. The separate datasets were then edgematched and brought togther into one dataset. The Idaho Roadless Rule Themes were than applied to each polygon based on the management prescription cross walk to the themes. Themes for Idaho Roadless Rule alternative were not always uniformly applied by prescription and some roadless areas were split on lines other than management prescription in order to assign the State of Idaho's desired theme to an area. The Existing forest plan prescriptions were used for Alternative 3 and applied uniformly across all prescriptions. The dataset was then edgematched with Wilderness area boundaries. The edgematching process altered the boundaries of the roadless areas slightly when done between forests and the wilderness boundary. The base dataset was then dissolved on Roadless Name, Forest, and Forest Plan Theme to eliminate unnecessary lines. This product was not used for analysis for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement.
