The CBI/WWF Protected AreasDatabase is the product of a collaborative effort between the ConservationBiology Institute and World Wildlife Fund, USA. The database containsboundaries of all federal and state owned/managed protected areas in theconterminous United States and Alaska, and includes county, city, and privatereserves when data were available. The database also contains boundaries of allprovincially owned protected areas in Canada. Protected areas are defined asparcels with a Gap Analysis Program (GAP) code of 1, 2, or 3. The database alsocontains information about parcel type, ownership, size, and protection level.
This dataset was created to providenatural resource managers with a large-scale digital dataset that can be usedto assess the protection status of natural ecosystems and individualbiodiversity elements throughout the United States and Canada.
