What are geospatial PDFs?
Geospatial PDFs have geo-referenced location information like latitude and longitude coordinates embedded in them.
You can download the PDF to your mobile device (smartphone or tablet) and then, using an app like PDF Maps from Avenza, you can use your device's built-in GPS to track your location on the map.
How do I use geospatial PDFs?
To use your mobile device's built-in GPS to track your location on the map:
- Download the geospatial PDF
- Download & install an app that reads geospatial PDFs
- PDF Maps by Avenza is available for both iOS and Android.

Some GPS devices can use geospatial PDFs to track location and distances.

Prepare for no cell coverage or electricity.
You can't count on having cell coverage, WiFi or electricity on the Forest. We recommend having your geospatial PDF map reading app installed and maps downloaded BEFORE heading out.
