Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) use on all open roads under Forest Service jurisdiction is limited to vehicles and operators that are in compliance with motor vehicle laws of the state of Tennessee.

Unlicensed OHVs are restricted to routes specifically designated as open to such vehicles.

Buffalo Mountain Trail #29 is the only designated ATV trail in Cherokee National Forest.  It is located in northeast Tennessee between Johnson City and Erwin.  This 12-mile linear trail is moderate to difficult and not recommended for beginners.  The trail is open to two-way traffic and bicycle use.  A fee of $5.00

Unicoi Trail #82 is a short 3.4-mile multiple use trail located in the Coker Creek Zone.  The trail is open to motorcycle use, but not ATVs.

Smith Mountain Trail #81 is another short 4.5-mile multiple use trail located in the Coker Creek Zone. The trail is open to motorcycle use, but not ATVs.

Choose "Maps & Publications" in the left menu column to reference a Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) for each ranger district of the Cherokee National Forest.
