Campground Camping

We have spots set aside at two of our most popular campgrounds for guest reservations. CCC Campground on the McKenzie Ranger District has 6 sites designated for reservations; Buffalo Gap Campground on the Medora Ranger District has 5 sites available for reservations through Recreation.gov. All other campsites and campgrounds are “first-come, first-served” and no reservations are accepted. Payments can be placed in the fee tube located at the entrance to the campground; payments must be made immediately upon selecting a site.

Campsite Occupancy rules: Camping or otherwise occupying a single site for over 14 consecutive days; and/or camping or otherwise occupying any number of sites for 28 cumulative days in a calendar year is prohibited within all Northern Region (Region 1) National Forest System (NFS) lands within the Dakota Prairie Grasslands in North Dakota and South Dakota.

Each Grassland offers opportunities for organized campground camping.  Many of the campgrounds have easy access to trails or water areas and may be reached by gravel or dirt roads.  For the specific campgrounds in each Grassland, select a link below.
