The Glacier View Ranger District is bordered on the east by the North Fork of the Flathead River and Glacier National Park. Its northern border is with Canada and its western border is with the Kootenai National Forest.
The Hungry Horse Ranger District is bordered on the east by the Middle Fork of the Flathead River and Glacier National Park. Its southern border runs along the Spotted Bear Ranger District and on the west with the Swan Lake ranger District. The Hungry Horse Reservoir and the South Fork of the Flathead River run north through the middle of the district.
The Middle Fork of the Flathead River is a part of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. It starts deep in the Bob Marshall Wilderness and flows into the Flathead River.
