Beckwourth Ranger District
Beckwourth Ranger District is one of three ranger districts of the Plumas National Forest. We are located on the eastern portion of the forest in Eastern Plumas County extending into Northeastern Sierra and South Lassen Counties. We are proud to be part of a dynamic community that shares its wealth of resources with our visitors.

The Beckwourth Ranger District is a place where visitors can find activities and experiences they require. Besides the great expanse of forest and range land, visitors also enjoy three recreation areas; mountain top forest lookouts; many campgrounds; a versatile forest road system; four lodges operated under permit; and two rental facilities. From solitude to adventure, available activities include lodges, camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, biking, equestrian, nature watching, water sports, cultural resources, exploring, wildflowers, fall color, motor touring and relaxing.

In addition to recreation activities, Beckwourth Ranger District provides other benefits to the community. Fuelwood, Christmas Trees and other timber related resource are available by permit. All commercial permits must be obtained in person. Small amounts of forest products are available without permit. Call 530-836-2575 for details
Lake Davis Recreation Area
Lake Davis is located 7 miles north of Portola, California. This lake was created in 1967 for recreational opportunities. The Lake Davis Recreation Area offers a wide variety of summer outdoor experiences including: camping , picnicking, fishing, hunting, boating, mountain biking, swimming, and wildlife viewing. Waterskiing and jet skis are not permitted. Frequent strong winds can cause the lake to become very hazardous for small craft. In the winter, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing are popular activities.
Lakes Basin Recreation Area
Located nine miles southwest of Graeagle, California, this recreation area has special geological features. There is breathtaking scenery and over 20 small lakes nearby, most of which are accessible by hiking trails. This area provides a multitude of recreational activities including camping, fishing, boating, hunting, mountain biking, horseback riding, picnicking, hiking, backpacking, swimming, windsurfing and nature study. In the winter visitors can snowmobile, cross-country ski and snowshoe.

There are several wonderful campgrounds along the Middle Fork of the Feather River below Little Grass Valley Recreation Area. Activities include nature viewing, stream fishing, hiking biking equestrian, OHV riding and hunting.

Our office is located in Quincy, California, Plumas County and extends to the north bordering the Lassen National Forest. Besides the great expanse of forest, visitors also enjoy varied recreation areas; mountain top forest lookouts; both developed fee and no-fee campgrounds; a versatile forest road system; privately owned lodges operated under permit; and various boat launches. From solitude to adventure, available activities include lodges, camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, biking, equestrian, nature watching, water sports, cultural resources, exploring, wildflowers, fall color, motor touring and relaxing.

Recreation on the Mt. Hough Ranger District:
Antelope Lake / Taylor Lake Trail
Bucks Lake Recreation Area
Bucks Lake is located on Oroville-Bucks Lake Road, 17 miles southwest of Quincy or 32 miles northeast of Oroville. Bucks Lake is a high mountain lake surrounded by the Bucks Lake Wilderness on one side and recreation residences/resorts on the other side. The area offers year-round recreation opportunities, making it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Showers are available nearby at Sandy Point Day Use / Boat Launch.
Mill Creek Campground
Feather River Canyon Recreation Area
Located 32 miles west of Quincy on Hwy 70, the Feather River Canyon Area has multiple campgrounds and trails. Located on the west branch of the north fork of the Feather River along Caribou Road, the area offers canoeing, kayaking, rafting and berry picking in late summer. Gansner Bar, North Fork, and Queen Lily campgrounds are located just off Caribou Road with Hallstead nearby on Hwy 70 just 17 miles west of Quincy.

Supplies are available in Belden, Twain, and Quincy.

Middle Fork Trails-Access from Bucks Lake Road
For access to McCarthy Bar Trail, No Ear Bar Trail and Oddie Bar Trail from Bucks Lake Road:

From Quincy take the Bucks Lake Rd. Go 4 miles to the Slate Creek Rd., turn left. Go 8.8 miles past Deanes Valley Campground to ridge top. Look for signs. From there take the left fork (23N99), go 1.5 miles to trail signs for Oddie and No Ear Bar Trails. The McCarthy Bar trailhead is to the left of the sign, 1 mile further. 4-wheel drive is recommended.
