Prescribed Burn Alert for the Oakmulgee Ranger District in Compartment 7

(Brent, AL) March 18, 2024---- The Talladega National Forest - Oakmulgee Ranger District is planning to burn 1741 acres today, approximately 11 miles West Northwest of Brent. The unit is surrounded by Forest Service Roads and natural barriers. On the north side of the unit is Wiggins Creek Drainage. The West boundary is FS Road 726. The South boundary is FS Road 749, and the East boundary is FS Road 724. During today’s burn, the public will notice Forest Service fire crews and equipment. Smoke most likely will be visible from the communities of Duncanville, Centreville, and Brent.
The wind is expected to be out of the Northwest carrying the smoke to the Southeast toward the Harrisburg area. As the temperatures cool later today, the smoke may begin to settle down north of the Pearson area. Some settling may also occur around the general area of the burn. Signs will be posted if needed. If encountering smoke on roadways, please slow down, turn on your low-beam headlights and use caution when encountering prescribed burning operations and smoke.
