  • Brush Hollow Hiking Trail System Temporarily Closed

In May 2017, a wind storm impacted nearly 1,500 acres on the Marienville Ranger District. Some of the most extensive damage occurred in the Brush Hollow area, that impacted the hiking and cross-country skiing trails. Because of the extensive damage, the potential commercial value of the timber involved, and the challenges associated with regenerating new forest stands, the Brush Hollow and Mill Creek Trails will remain closed for the foreseeable future, and possibly through the 2018 calendar year.

The Allegheny National Forest will soon propose to conduct an Environmental Assessment to address the removal of blowndown timber in and around the Brush Hollow area, reforestation of those acres, and restoration of the Brush Hollow and Mill Creek Trails.

For more information, please contact the Marienville Ranger District at 814.927.6628.
