  • Unmanned Aircraft System/Drone Usage during Wildfires

Heads up drone users! Anyone flying an Unmanned Aircraft System (or drone) over a wildfire without authorization may be subject to fines of up to $25,000 and criminal prosecution. Unauthorized drone flights pose serious risks to firefighter and public safety and the effectiveness of wildfire suppression operations.
Even if a Temporary Flight Restriction is not in place, it’s a federal crime to interfere with firefighting aircraft. All unauthorized UAS flights over wildfires on national forest lands will be reported to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and law enforcement agencies.
