  • Updated Forest Closure Order

El Yunque National Forest was closed to the public effective Tuesday, September 5, 2017, due to impacts from Hurricane Irma which passed near the island on September 6 and remained closed after Hurricane Maria which hit the island directly on September 20.

Since September much progress has been made to recover from the devastating impacts hurricanes Irma and Maria left in their wakes. However, most of the Forest is still unsafe for public access due to hazardous trees and unstable landslides. The Forest will have limited access until closed areas are determined to be safe for use by the public. See areas that are currently accessible on the Updates and Areas Available for Public Use page.
