  • Winter is Coming: Stay Safe on FS Roads

As winter approaches with the possibility of snow and ice, take precautions while using Forest Service roads.

Motor vehicle use, especially OHV use, involves risks that may cause property damage, injury, or death. Riders should use cauton and anticipate rough surfaces and snow, mud, vegetation, and water crossings. Participants assume full responsibility for these damages, risks, and dangers.

Designation of a road, trail, or area for motor vehicle use under 36 CFT 212.51 should not be interpreted as encouraging or inviting use, or to imply that the road, trail or area is passable, actively maintained, or safe for travel. Seasonal weather conditions and natural events may render designated routes impassable for extended periods. Many designated roads and trails may be passable only by high-clearance vehicles or four-wheel drive vehicles. Maintenance of designated road and trails depend on available resources and may receive little maintenance.
