  • Forest Service to Open roads Depending on Local Conditions

Green Mountain National Forest (GMNF) officials are planning to open many Forest Service roads for wheeled highway vehicle traffic by Friday May 1st in an effort to allow the public greater access to portions of the GMNF that have been gated throughout snowmobile season and for the winter months. Openings will be carried out depending on local conditions as many forest roads continue to be soft, muddy and snow covered.

Given the significant amount of snow in the higher elevations this year, it is very likely that spring mud season will extend later into May and possibly even in to June delaying the opening of some forest roads. Thus, forest users should plan accordingly and check with their local ranger station for up-to-date road information.
