  • North River Ranger District - Wind Storm Impacts Roads and Trails - Use Caution

On March 2-3, 2018 the North River Ranger District experienced significant sustained winds causing trees to topple and fall across many forest roads and trails.

Use caution when traveling as trees and their associated limbs may be blocking roads and trails.  While volunteer and Forest Service crews are working to clear paths, it may take the Forest Service several weeks to open all routes.

Some forest roads have been closed seasonally to ensure public safety and prevent the impacts of erosion and sedimentation in our streams and rivers. Closures take into account that winter freezing and thawing events make road surfaces very soft. Traffic on roads experiencing seasonal freezing and thawing conditions typically causes more damage, drainage problems, and soil erosion.

For more information call the North River Ranger District (540) 432-0187.
