  • Forest Service is conducting prescribed burns this spring throughout the Forests

We are conducting prescribed burns throughout the Forests from March through mid-May. Prescribed burns improve wildlife habitat by restoring open woodlands and grasslands to the forest landscape, and keep the public and homes safe by reducing the buildup of dried leaves and wood in nearby forest land that can lead to uncontrolled wildfires. Safety is the Forest Service’s top priority, and Forest Service fire managers will conduct prescribed burns only under appropriate weather conditions. Areas near prescribed burns may see or smell smoke and some trails or roads may be temporarily closed. For information about where we are conducting prescribed burns check out the InciWeb Information page or follow us on twitter: @GWJNF1
