Paddler Alert - AuTrain River

Alert

During the summer of 2020, the US Forest Service started riverbank restoration along the AuTrain River. This restoration helps both humans who enjoy paddling the river, and animals, such as turtles, that lay eggs in the sand and live nearby. To help maintain the restoration and protect water ecosystems around the Hiawatha, please

• Follow signs,

• Stay on the designated routes,

• Stay off areas with eroding sand and restoration work,

• Avoid landing or sitting on river banks by foot or boat,

• Stay off vegetation bundles (fascines) and sandbags,

• Use provided vessel tie-offs and existing bathroom and picnic facilities,

• Fully clean, drain, and dry boats after paddling the river to prevent the spread of invasive species.
