Forest Order: 03-07-01-23-02 Camping/Campfire Closure within Proximity to Developed Sites

PROHIBITIONS

Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a), the following is prohibited on the
National Forest System (NFS) lands in the Kaibab National Forest, described below and
shown on the attached maps incorporated into this Order as Exhibits A-K (the “Described
Areas”):

1. Camping. 36 C.F.R. § 261.58(e).

2. Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, including charcoal and briquettes,
outside a fire structure that is provided by the Forest Service. 36 C.F.R. §
261.52(a).

Note: a fire structure consists of a metal fire ring at a developed campsite.

EXEMPTIONS

Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:

1. Persons lawfully camping within the developed campgrounds/cabins identified in
Exhibits A-K:

Williams Ranger District:
Dogtown Lake Campground
Kaibab Lake Campground and Group Areas
White Horse Lake Campground
Spring Valley Cabin

Tusayan Ranger District:
Ten X Campground
Hull Cabin

North Kaibab Ranger District:
DeMotte Campground
Indian Hollow Campground
Jacob Lake Campground & Group Campground/Picnic Site
Big Springs Cabins
Jumpup Cabin

2. Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads,
Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them
from this Order or a written determination by a Forest Service authorized officer
that a permit is not required under 36 C.F.R. § 251.50(e)(1) or (2).

3. Any Federal, State, or Local Officer, or member of an organized rescue or
firefighting resource in the performance of an official duty.

DESCRIBED AREAS

All NFS lands within one mile of developed campgrounds and recreational cabins on the
Williams and Tusayan Ranger Districts as specifically shown in Exhibits A-K.
All NFS lands within one half-mile of developed campgrounds and recreational cabins on
the North Kaibab Ranger District as specifically shown in Exhibits A-K.

PURPOSE

To comply with the Standards of Recreation Activities and desired conditions for
recreation as specified in the Kaibab National Forest Land and Resource Management
Plan.

IMPLEMENTATION

1. This Order shall be in effect from September 1st at 12:01 AM 2023 through August
31st at 12:00 AM 2033, unless rescinded.
