Winter Pile Burns Possible on Williams Ranger District

Alert

Winter precipitation is giving crews the opportunity to conduct winter pile burns on the Williams Ranger District with up to 28 acres of hand piles located just south of Williams along the Bill Williams Trail (22 acres) and East Ski Run Road (6 acres), with another 169 acres possible between Forest Road 108 and State Route 73 south of Bill Williams Mountain later in the week, if conditions allow.

The piles can be seen from the town and highway and smoke will be visible during ignitions. The piles are relatively small-in-size and will consume quickly. Little to no smoke impacts are expected. Cooler overnight temperatures may cause smoke to settle into low-lying drainages surrounding these burn locations.

Motorists are reminded to use caution and drive with heightened awareness when passing through active project areas.
