Summer Trail Closures along MTN Loop

Closure

The Darrington District of the Mt.-Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest is preparing recreation sites for maintenance and construction by closing the trailheads, parking lots and trails in some areas along and near the Mountain Loop Highway. They will also be closing portions of roads in the area.

Closures Inclue:

Mt. Pilchuck: FSR 42 and trail will be closed at the Heather Lake Trailhead gate for the season for road & trail work. (starting 5/1)

Lake Twenty-Two: Trailhead and Trail will be closed late September for trail maintenance. 

Boardman Lake, Ashland lake, Pinnacke Lake: FSR 4020 and 4021 will be closed May 15th through July. Update: 8/1 Road work has not been completed, road remains closed. 

Mallardy, Cutthroat Lakes: FSR 4032 and 4030 will be closed June 1st though October 15th 2023 Monday through Friday. 

Big Four Picnic Area & Ice Caves: Trailhead and Trail will be closed May 15th - June 30th for trail work. COMPLETED ahead of schedule, and is now open.

Coal Lake: FSR 4060 will be closed to all acess starting 8/28 for timber sale opperations through October.

Some of the closures will go into effect May 1, while others will start later in the season.Road and trail conditions and status throughout the Mt.
