  • Mortimer Campground reopens but roads and trails remain damaged

    The Mortimer Campground in the Wilson Creek area of the Pisgah National Forest, Grandfather Ranger District reopens at noon today. The campground has been closed for two weeks to repair road damage following historic flooding in the Wilson Creek area. Damage remains on Forest Service roads in the Wilson Creek area. The following Forest Service roads in the Wilson Creek area of Caldwell and Avery Counties were impacted:

    While the campground facilities are open this weekend, campers are asked to bring their own drinking water until managers are able to verify that the water is safe to drink. We hope to have the water issue resolved early next week. 

    • Schoolhouse Ridge Road (FSRD 4068) is closed to all motor vehicle traffic.
    • Roseboro Road (FSRD 981) is only passable for high clearance and four wheel drive vehicles.
