  • Panther Top Shooting Range temporarily closed Sunday 3/24 during prescribed burn

The Panther Top Shooting Range on the Tusquitee Ranger District will temporarily close during a 2500-acre prescribed burn planned on the Nantahala National Forest on Sunday, March 24.

Whether or not the burn is carried out will depend on site-specific weather conditions and smoke modeling data. All prescribed burns follow smoke management guidelines to reduce impacts to the public.

Public and firefighter safety is the highest priority. Be aware of the potential for firefighter traffic near the Panther Top area.

The goal of this understory burn is to reduce hazardous fuels on the forest floor to prevent future catastrophic wildfires and improve wildlife habitat.
