  • Pine Cliff Fire in Craven County 100% Contained

The 62-acre Pine Cliff Fire in Craven County near Havelock and the Cherry Branch Community is 100 percent contained. However, dead and down debris from Hurricane Florence in the interior is still burning and producing smoke.

Firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service, North Carolina Forest Service, Harlowe Volunteer Fire Department, and the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Environmental Affairs Department worked through the night. Today they are cleaning existing fire lines and are conducting burnout operations.

Aircraft is on site to monitor spotting. Drones can interfere with firefighting efforts so don't fly your drone near a wildfire. All aerial firefighting operations must cease when a drone is sighted because of the potential for a mid-air collision which could lead to the death of the pilot and firefighters as well as others on the ground.

The fire was reported Wednesday afternoon at 5 acres. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
