Environmental Analysis begins for replacing Bear Valley Ski Resort chair

The Region 5 Forest Service and the Stanislaus National Forest is starting the planning process for replacing the Bear Chair at Bear Valley Ski Resort. The Bear Chair is 50 years old and maintenance is difficult due to scarce replacement parts. The Forest Service is beginning the environmental analysis for removing the Bear Chair, a two-person Riblet, and installing a Leitner Poma six-person chair in the same alignment. The new chair’s loading area will be the same footprint as the Bear Chair, and the new unloading area will be about 50 feet farther up the mountain. In addition, the resort plans to remove the Kuma Chair, which runs parallel to the Bear Chair, in 2018.
