  • Many day-use recreation sites open Friday

Beginning Friday, many day-use developed recreation sites will open across the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. These include trailheads, picnic areas, scenic overlooks, boat ramps, and others. Keep in mind that some sites may still be inaccessible due to snow and seasonal road closures.

Decisions for specific sites are based on the health & safety of our employees and the public, as well as our staff capacity to safely maintain and clean recreation facilities.

For these reasons, developed campgrounds, rental cabins, the Oregon Trail Interpretive Park, and others remain closed at this time.

Services such as toilets, potable water, and trash collection may be unavailable, so it is important that visitors plan to be self-sufficient and practice “Leave No Trace.” Parking is limited at most sites, so be prepared for social distancing and give fellow users plenty of space to share the sites.
