Snowmobilers use caution: Logging trucks on Muddy Pass & Eagle-Thomasville Roads
Alert
Date(s): Nov 24, 2024 - Mar 31, 2025
Snowmobilers planning to ride Muddy Pass and/or Eagle-Thomasville Roads this winter should expect to encounter logging trucks and heavy traffic.
Muddy Pass Road (NFSR 700 north of Wolcott) will be plowed from the intersection with Moniger Road (NFSR 433) to Highway 131 to allow truck access, and at least three inches of snow will be left on the road for snowmobiling. Contractors will cut and process trees along the Muddy Pass Road on weekdays.Logging operations can be avoided by accessing the area from Berry Creek north of Edwards or Red Sandstone Road north of Vail.
Heavy truck traffic and equipment will also be using the Eagle-Thomasville Road (NFSR 400) Monday through Friday this winter as part of a forest improvement project south of Crooked Creek Pass in the Coyote Park area.
The Eagle-Thomasville Road will be plowed from Sylvan Lake State Park to a point about two miles southwest of Crooked Creek Reservoir to allow truck access. The road is gated just above Sylvan Lake but is open to over-the-snow vehicles and non-motorized use. At least three inches of snow will be left on the road for winter recreation.
