Cougar Dam Crest Road intermittently closed through September 2024

Alert

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is closing the Cougar Dam Crest Road to allow for ongoing construction work on one of the dam’s spillway gates through September 2024. The intermittent closure, which includes a section of Forest Service Road (FSR) 1993 that goes across Cougar Dam, will have periodic full- and partial-lane closures from May through September. Specific USACE closure dates for the dam are subject to change during the ongoing construction. For the latest updates, contact the McKenzie River Ranger District at (541) 822-3381.

Throughout the summer, visitors may need to use alternate routes to access recreation sites on the eastern part of Cougar Dam. Access to Terwilliger Hot Springs is not impacted. To access Echo Boat Launch, Lower East Fork Trailhead, Upper East Fork Trailhead, Upper Lowder Trailhead, and Pat Saddle Trailhead, visitors may take FSR 19 to the intersection with FSR 500 near Cougar Crossing Campground. Follow FSR 500 until it reconnects with FSR 1993.
