COVID 19 Update: (offices are operating virtually)

With over 3 million acres stretching across 7 ranger districts,the Forest is known as one of the most ecologically diverse landscapes in the area.  Ranger Districts include Bozeman, Hebgen Lake in West Yellowstone, MT, Yellowstone R.D. in Livingston, MT, Gardiner R.D., Beartooth R.D. in Red Lodge, MT, Ashland R.D. in far southeastern MT and Sioux R.D. in Camp Crook, SD.

The Forest hosts three gateways to Yellowstone National Park, over a million acres of Wilderness between the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness and the Lee Metcalf Wilderness and features adventures among rugged mountains, including the tallest Peak in Montana to the remote buttes and bluffs of southeastern Montana and northwestern South Dakota.

Forest Plan Revision

A Forest Plan is the comprehensive overarching document that guides forest management, use, and protection for years to come. Final Decision anticipated early 2022.

Earthquake Lake Visitors Center

Near midnight on an August night in 1959 a 7.5 magnitude earthquake, near the Madison River triggered a massive landslide forever changing the landscape.

Store your food properly, Grizzly Bears frequent the Forest

Grizzly bears and black bears are present across much of the Custer Gallatin National Forest.

Carry Bear Spray, know how to use it and have it handy.
