Law Enforcement OHV/ATV Rules

Pursuant to 36 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 261.50 (a) and (b), the following acts are prohibited on the National Forests in Alabama for the protection of the public, natural resources, and property.  These orders are effective from June 15, 2007 until June 15, 2012.

Forest Development Roads:

  1. Operating or using a motor vehicle that emits a noise in excess of:  eighty-six (86) decibels at fifty (50) feet at a speed of thirty five (35) miles per hour or less; (99) decibels at twenty inches from the exhaust at a (45) degree angle as outlined in the Off-Highway Motorcycle and All-Terrain Vehicle Stationary Sound Test Manual. 36 CFR 261.54 (a)
  2. Operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or other drug as prescribed by state law. 36CFR 261.54 (d)
  3. Operating a motor vehicle on a Forest Development Road without proper safety equipment or which is not in compliance with applicable State Laws and Regulations for use on public roads and highways, 36 CFR 261.54 (d)
  4. Operating a motor vehicle on a Forest Development Road without a valid drivers license and valid vehicle license tag. 36 CFR 261.54 (d)
  5. Operating a motorized vehicle on a road and trail that is blocked by a gate, sign or other physical barrier erected to restrict motorized vehicular travel. 36 CFR 261.54 (e)
  6. Operating a motorized vehicle on a road or trail that is not shown on the Motorized Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) for the National Forests in Alabama
