Celebrate National Get Outdoors Day at Bankhead National Forest Youth Fishing Derby

Double Springs, AL  May 31, 2018 - The U.S. Forest Service is inviting families to the Bankhead National Forest annual Youth Fishing Derby on June 9 to celebrate National Get Outdoors Day. The fishing derby will be held at the Black Warrior Work Center located at 3730 Highway 33 Moulton, Ala. The event will be from 8:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to youth ages 5-12 who must be supervised by a parent or guardian. The event is free and open to the public. Lunch and prizes will be provided with registration beginning at 8:45 a.m.

The U.S. Forest Service is participating in National Get Outdoors Day in an effort to help youth and families become more active outdoors. Youth are invited for a day of free fishing and learning about the importance of the great outdoors. Participants must bring their own fishing gear and bait.

The U.S. Forest Service is partnering for this event with the National Wild Turkey Federation, Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries, Winston County Natural Resources Council, Double Springs Lions Club, National Wild Turkey Federation, Winston County Commission and Alabama Conservation Enforcement Officers Association.
