Environmental assessment available for road relocation and wetland restoration project

The FR136/FR343 Road Relocation and Wetland Restoration Environmental Assessment (EA) is available for public review and comment. The proposed project would take place on the Marienville Ranger District of the Allegheny National Forest in Spring Creek Township, Elk County, Pennsylvania. The EA presents the anticipated environmental effects of proposed activities inclusive of the construction of new roads (2.1 miles), reconstruction of existing roads (0.4 miles), removal of existing roads (2.9 miles), and restoration of stream channels (120 feet) and wetlands (0.6 acres). “This project is intended to meet a number of objectives, including the enhancement of public safety, improvement of water quality, increase in wildlife viewing opportunities, and improvement of year-round access for hunting, fishing, and dispersed recreation,” said Marienville District Ranger Rob Fallon.

Comments must be postmarked, or otherwise received, no later than 30 days after publication of the legal notice in The Kane Republican. Comments may be submitted by:
