Road Conditions

Road conditions throughout the Angeles National Forest, which includes the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, can change suddenly due to weather conditions or fire activity. Be aware of your surroundings at all times, especially for mudslides, fallen rocks, debris flows, and landslides. Know more about local road conditions before you go. Tire chains or cables may be required from mid-fall through early spring.

Did you know?...Major roads in the Angeles National Forest are managed and maintained by other agencies--not the U.S. Forest Service.

The USDA Forest Service does manage smaller roads within the Angeles National Forest--Forest Service Road Information. Some forest roads are known by their name and/or road number (e.g., 3N17 is also known as Santa Clara Divide Road).

Roads in the forest may close for public safety at any time with little or no notice.
