Fire Restrictions
Know Before You Go!
Know fire restrictions before you go—it can mean the difference between S’mores and cold foods only. Restrictions can change at any time without notice. Please help protect local communities and the forest by checking with Angeles National Forest offices or visitor centers for current regulations and by observing fire-safety measures during your visit.
The Angeles National Forest uses a system of graduated fire danger levels to indicate fire risk and corresponding restrictions for visitors, recreational cabin owners, and concessioners. These levels include LOW, MODERATE, HIGH, VERY HIGH, EXTREME, and CRITICAL, with restrictions becoming progressively stricter as the danger level increases. These are determined based on factors like vegetation moisture, weather, and the availability of firefighters and equipment.
A violation of the law can result in a $5,000 fine and/or six months in jail. Anyone causing a wildfire is liable for all costs of suppressing the fire.
