ARCADIA, Calif., January 29, 2025— Effective immediately, the fire danger level has decreased to EXTREME at the Angeles National Forest, which includes the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. Visitors, recreational cabin owners, and concessioners are advised of the following restrictions in place at this time:

  • No building, maintaining, attending, or using a campfire.

  • No charcoal or gas grills.

  • No portable lanterns or stoves (commonly referred to as "backpacker stoves”).

  • California Campfire Permits are NOT valid for any purpose at this time.

  • No smoking.

  • Fireworks and pyrotechnics are prohibited on public lands — every forest, every campsite, every day. This includes sparklers.

  • No shooting of tracer, armor piercing, steel core, or Teflon ammunition.

  • No use of firearms, air rifle, or gas gun, except in authorized public shooting area, except by hunters during legal hunting seasons and restrictions.

  • No welding or operating an acetylene or other torch with open flame.

Recent rainfall has allowed for the forest to reopen with a downgrade in fire restrictions from critical with full forest closure to extreme. Fire danger levels are subject to change with weather and fire activity on the forest. A violation of the law can result in a $5,000 fine and/or six months in jail. Anyone causing a wildfire is liable for all costs of suppressing the fire.
