The Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland is part of the Rocky Mountain Region, which manages resources and activities across more than 22 million acres of forests and grasslands in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming. A forest supervisor leads each of the 11 national forest and grassland units, which are divided into ranger districts managed by district rangers.

The Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland (ARP) includes 1.6 million acres of forests and grassland in Northern Colorado. ARP Forest Supervisor Monte Williams and Deputy Forest Supervisor Terry Baker lead a team of four group leaders and five district rangers. 

The Forest Supervisor's Office, located in Fort Collins, houses the forest supervisor and four program areas:

  • Ecosystem  Group (program areas include Soils, Air, Hydrology, Fire and Vegetation Management, Fisheries, Wildlife, Heritage and Forest planning
  • Fire Management and sponsorship of the Fort Collins Interagency Dispatch and Aviation Center and Jeffco Air Tanker Base.
  • Recreation, Engineering, Lands, and Minerals Group 
  • Administrative Operations Group (program areas include Human Resources, Financial Management,  and Civil Rights )

The ARP is managed on the ground by five ranger districts:

  • The Boulder Ranger District headquartered in Boulder. The district includes National Forest lands within Boulder County and portions of Gilpin and Jefferson Counties.
  • The Canyon Lakes Ranger District headquartered in Fort Collins. The district includes all the National Forest lands in Larimer County. Canyon Lakes Ranger District is also the host of the Roosevelt Hotshots.
  • The Clear Creek Ranger District headquartered in Idaho Springs. The district includes National Forest lands in Clear Creek county and portions of Gilpin, Jefferson and Park counties.
  • The Pawnee National Grassland headquartered in Ault. The district includes all the National Grasslands in Weld County.
  • The Sulphur Ranger District headquartered in Granby. The district includes all the National Forest lands in Grand County.
