(Boulder, Colo.)  Incident Commander Julie Stennes and her engine crew will staff the fully contained Lefthand Canyon fire overnight. The fire was reported around 12:45 p.m. this afternoon and fully contained around 4:30 p.m. this afternoon.
Forest Service officials and multiple agencies were able to get enough resources to contain the 1.7 acre fire within hours of the fire’s report this afternoon. Two crews will arrive tomorrow morning to continue suppression activities such as reducing heat found within the fire perimeter and monitor the burned area for flare-ups.
“Given the low humidity and high temperatures, the conditions were favorable for intense fire behavior today. We are relieved to have the fire contained so quickly,” said Stennes.
At about 9:00 p.m. this evening drivers-by on Lefthand Road waved in gratitude to the firefighters who were hiking down after working in some very steep terrain.
Officials began investigating the fire’s origin this afternoon, more information will be provided as it becomes available.
Agencies assisting fire suppression efforts today include (alphabetically) 4 Mile Fire Crew, Boulder County Sheriff's Dept., Boulder Mountain Fire, City of Boulder, Lefthand Fire District, and Sunshine Fire Department.
