Temporary Outfitter/Guide & Recreation Events

Many bike racers come around a corner with people watching and a mountain in the background. To promote efficiencies associated with the timely submittal and review of proposals made to use National Forest System lands on the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland for temporary Outfitting/Guiding and Recreation Events the following timeframes are followed by the ARP:

*Summer Uses

  • New Groups (not under permit the previous year): Submit information to the Forest Service by February 15.
  • Recurring Groups: Submit information to the Forest Service by March 15.
  • By April 30 the Forest Service alerts proponents as to whether the proposal was accepted, denied or needs modification (in this case additional information must be submitted within 15 days).

*Winter Uses

  • New Groups (not under permit in the previous year): Submit information to the Forest Service by August 15.
  • Recurring groups: Submit information to the Forest Service by September 15.
  • By October 31 the Forest Service will alert proponents as to whether the request was accepted, denied or needs modifications (in this case additional information must be submitted within 15 days).

*Required information for all applications include proposed use; itinerary; specific information on location, including trails, name of group, and reason why the use cannot be accommodated on non-federal lands; and all other basis information.

If group activities span multiple Ranger Districts or National Forests, there may be additional time for multi-unit coordination in which case you will be notified of the additional time needs within 15 days of receipt of your proposal. Also, for efficiency and coordination purposes, we strongly suggest that each event or group have only one contact person working directly with specified Forest Service contacts.

Contact the local district office to request an application.
