Pawnee National Grassland Roads Status

Forest Roads Status - Home

Dirt road with green prairie on either side. White clouds against blue sky. Please call the Pawnee District office at (970)834-9270 for updates.

Do not attempt roads that are above your skill level and be prepared in case you get stuck. Have adequate gear and let someone know where you are planning to go.

Grazing is one of the multiple uses that takes place on the Pawnee National Grassland. Grazing in most areas is finished for the year, but some areas are designated as winter grazing allotments. You may see unlocked gates across some FS roads to keep cattle in, or out of, certain areas. Travel through these gates is allowed, but cattle do sometimes wander onto the roads.  Please be patient, drive slowly, and stay safe. Please return the gate to the condition you found it. If you have questions about a gate please contact the Pawnee office at 970-834-9270.

Current Status:

Recent rains have made many roads muddy and some are flooding. County Road 96 on the east side of the bird tour is experiencing flooding. Use caution.

The Main Draw OHV area is closed annually from April 10 to October 31.  If you have questions, please call the Pawnee Ranger District office.

Free maps showing National Forest System routes or areas open to motorized travel are available for the Pawnee National Grassland. Please see our Motor Vehicle Use Map page for more information.
