Hunting: Canyon Lakes Ranger District

Check our Flood Recovery page for closure details related to the 2013 Flood.

Many opportunities for hunting exist on the Canyon Lakes Ranger District, located predominately in Larimer County. Portions of Game Management Units 7, 8, 19, 20 and 191 are located on the district.

Closure Information

There are occassionally projects and incidents that require closures of some areas frequented by hunters. Please continue to check this page for the latest information. Many of the district's roads close on or before December 1 for wildlife habitat protection and erosion prevention. Foot traffic is allowed on those seasonally closed roads.

Prescribed Fire

In Fall 2017, one to two prescribed burns are planned on Canyon Lakes. The Pingree Hill Prescribed Burn is located orth of Highway 14, east of Rustic. The Red Feather Prescribed Burn is located north of Red Feather Lakes. Although no closures are in place, it is important to know that these burns could be taking place during hunting season.
