Hunting: Boulder Ranger District

Please use caution in all flood affected areas. Check our Flood 2013 page for closure details.

The Boulder Ranger District offers many opportunities for hunting in Boulder and northern Gilpin Counties. Portions of Game Management Units 20, 29 and 38 are within district boundaries.

Closure Information

There are occasionally projects and incidents that require closures of some areas frequented by hunters. Please continue to check this page for the latest information. Many of the district's roads close on or before December 1 for wildlife habitat protection and erosion prevention. Foot traffic is allowed on those seasonally closed roads.

Reminders...

  • If using an outfitter/guide on the Boulder Ranger District, make sure they are permitted to operate on National Forest System lands. Check our website for a list of authorized outfitters and guides.
  • The mountain pine beetle epidemic has impacted thousands of acres of the Boulder Ranger District. Check our safety information online. Remember your safety is your responsibility.
  • Please remember if you are in a designated Wilderness Area, mechanized or motorized equipment is prohibited.
  • The Colorado Parks and Wildlife manages hunting activities in the State of Colorado
  • Make sure to know where you are when heading out into the Forest. There is a great deal of private land intermixed with public lands.
  • Be sure to check for fire restrictions before heading out. If allowed in the area you intend to visit, fires must be cold to the touch before being left unattended.

Contact Visitor Information Services for help planning your hunting trip or to order a map with private lands identified.

Contact  public affairs for information regarding specific closures.
