Vernal, Utah, November 27, 2013—For Immediate Release ...  Escape the crowds, come and experience winter on the Ashley National Forest and recreate on 163 miles of groomed snowmobile trails and 34 miles of cross-country ski trails.

Currently the White Cloud Loop Road on the Vernal Ranger District is closed at East Park Reservoir and Trout Creek Meadow to all wheeled vehicles and open for over-the-snow use only.

If you are going to harvest a Christmas tree on the Ashley National Forest below is a video that shows you one family’s experience.

Trout Creek Guard Station located on the Vernal Ranger District is a rustic Civilian Conservation Corp constructed Guard Station 21 miles west of Highway 191.  Trout Creek can sleep 4 people, has a wood stove for heat, (wood provided), and a propane stove.  The area around the guard station is perfect for snow machining with many open meadows and trails in the area.  Trout creek guard station can be rented for $35.00 a night and reserved online.  Access is recommended by snow machine. The Canyon Rim cross-country ski trail is located on the Flaming Gorge Ranger District is about 4.6 miles long and runs from the Red Canyon Visitor Center to the Green Dale Overlook.  The trail travels through Ponderosa Pine and sagebrush meadows.  The trail is primarily gently rolling with a few hills steeper than 10 percent.  The trail allows for spectacular views of Red Canyon and is a short ski or drive from Red Canyon Lodge for lunch and hot chocolate.
