Swett Ranch Homestead: Second Blacksmith Shop

Oscar was concerned that sparks from the blacksmith shop might set the main house on fire after the nearby ranger station burned down. He constructed the second blacksmith shop in the early 1940s from lumber milled in Meadow Park. The “junk” piles around the shop were an integral part of his economy. Thrift was highly regarded and little was wasted. Material was constantly being used, discarded, salvaged, and reused. As you tour the ranch, you will notice various recycled materials including various car parts.
