Distinguishing Features

  • Reaches almost 3 feet in height
  • Stems are erect and thickly clustered
  • Leaves are narrow, alternate and 1 to 2 inches long
  • Flowers are yellowish-green in numerous small clusters; petals are fused into a cuplike structure enclosed by paired, heart-shaped, green-yellow bracts
  • Entire plant contains a milky juice
