Manila, Utah … Beginning July 11, 2011 campground loops A through D at Lucerne Valley Campground and Forest Service Roads 365 and 069 will be closed for the season to provide for public safety.

This project will use heavy equipment to reconstruct campground loops A through D to enlarge the camping spurs, provide new picnic tables, fire rings, concrete picnic pads, water hydrants, landscaping, and lay a new asphalt surface on the roads and spurs.

Scott Bingham, Forest Engineer stated, “This project will renovate one of the highest use campgrounds on the Forest with new facilities that will accommodate larger camping trailers and provide updated landscaping, site features and road surfaces.  We expect to have the renovations complete by the summer of 2012.”

Forest Service Roads 365 and 069 access the gravel pit and landfill pit needed to implement renovations.  During this period these roads will be used by heavy equipment and trucks.

The Ashley National Forest received about 3 million dollars of appropriated funds through a national competition under the Capital Improvement Program to complete this project.  This project was considered and selected from projects submitted by all National Forests and National Grasslands in the nation.
