Robert Gump, Acting Deputy Forest Supervisor

The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests would like to express a warm welcome to Robert Gump, our new Acting Deputy Forest Supervisor for the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests Supervisor’s Office in Springerville, Arizona. Robert is coming to us from the Bitterroot National Forest in Hamilton, Montana where he serves as planning, vegetation and wildlife Forest Staff Officer.

Robert began his career on the Umatilla National Forest in Region 6 as a seasonal firefighter on an engine crew, followed by a permanent fire position in Oregon on the Winema NF, including a season on the Winema Hot Shot crew.  Robert moved into Silviculture and became a certified Silviculturist in 1994 while on the Beaverhead-Deerlodge NF. In 2000, Robert moved to a District Staff position managing Recreation, Wilderness and Trails for Hells Canyon NRA and Eagle Cap Wilderness.  Robert and his family moved back in 2008 where he became the Forest Silviculturist-Ecologist on the Beaverhead-Deerlodge NF. In 2016, Robert became Staff Officer on the Bitterroot NF.

Robert’s daughter, Peri, is currently attending University of Montana. With his significant other, Lisa, the family is actively managing 22 acres of dry ponderosa pine in the Bitterroot Valley. The Gump family loves to spend time in the backcountry hiking or hunting, and have a mix of farm animals, dogs and cats to keep the home life interesting.

Robert’s previous experience and communication skills will be an asset to the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests and to our community. His reporting date is September 9, 2019.
